Hyman Health Directory: Eligibility & Criteria

To be listed in the Hyman Health Directory, all providers, products, or services must meet the following Core Criteria. This is a transparent, integrity-driven process to ensure that every listing contributes meaningfully to systems-based, root-cause oriented healthcare.

Eligibility Categories

We evaluate listings in one or more of the following categories:

  • Clinical Providers (e.g., MDs, DOs, NPs)
  • Wellness Providers (e.g., health coaches, yoga teachers, breathwork providers)
  • Health Services (e.g., IV therapy, wellness clinics, regenerative medicine)
  • Products (e.g., supplements, medical foods, wellness tech)
  • Retail (e.g., health food stores, clean beauty, EMF protection)
  • Food/Farming (e.g., CSAs, regenerative farms, wildcrafters)

Vetting Criteria

Each listing is assessed across the following domains:

1. Systems Medicine Alignment

  • Must address a root cause or system of the Functional Medicine Matrix (e.g., immune balance, gut health, detoxification, hormone regulation).
  • Must be grounded in a science-based, systems-thinking approach—not just symptom suppression.
  • Clinical providers should ideally have IFM certification or equivalent Systems Medicine training, or clearly adhere to Function Medicine principles, even if they don’t formally practice Systems Medicine.

2. Ingredient & Product Integrity (for food/supplements)

  • 100% organic, regenerative, biodynamic, or wild-harvested.
  • No synthetic additives, artificial sweeteners, seed oils, or glyphosate residue.
  • Transparent labeling and third-party testing where applicable.
  • Sustainability and ethical sourcing are non-negotiable.

3. Clinical & Ethical Standards (for providers/services)

  • Evidence of trauma-informed care, consent-centered practices, and patient empowerment.
  • No promotion of quick fixes, crash detoxes, or fear-based marketing.
  • Must demonstrate individualized, lifestyle-first care (vs. protocols or prescriptions in isolation).

4. Transparency & Accessibility

  • Clear ownership and practitioner credentials must be publicly available.
  • Local accessibility and/or telehealth options preferred.
  • Transparent pricing or willingness to disclose pricing upon request.

5. Cultural and Environmental Sensitivity

  • Respect for ancestral, indigenous, or traditional medicine practices if used.
  • Consideration of environmental impact and cultural appropriateness in sourcing and service delivery.

Non-Negotiables

  • No MLMs, greenwashed brands, or misleading claims.
  • No upcharges or hidden costs for consumers.
  • No pharmaceutical kickbacks or conventional-only practices with no lifestyle consideration.

How the Vetting Process Works

Transparency. Fairness. Integrity. Community.

Every company, provider, product, or service listed in the Hyman Health Directory undergoes a multi-step review process to ensure alignment with our core principles of functional, systems-based, and ethically grounded health care.

Our goal is not exclusivity for its own sake—but clarity, safety, and alignment for the people we serve.

We are not here to gatekeep. We are here to uplift, support, and help each other grow. Here’s exactly how it works:

1. Self-Attestation via Application

All applicants begin with a structured intake form that:

  • Outlines the Hyman Health Directory’s core eligibility criteria
  • Asks applicants to describe how they meet these criteria (e.g., sourcing practices, clinical philosophy, education or certifications, ingredients, etc.)
  • Invites transparency around gaps or areas of ongoing improvement

We expect honesty and self-reflection, not perfection. This step is designed to open the door to collaboration and dialogue.

2. Manual Review by Systems Medicine Review Team

Once submitted, every application is reviewed by our internal team of clinicians and professionals trained in systems-based, root-cause care.

This review ensures:

  • Alignment with the Systems Medicine Matrix
  • Clinical or ingredient integrity (depending on category)
  • Ethical alignment with our non-negotiables
  • Truthfulness and consistency across public-facing materials (websites, labels, etc.)

We do not discriminate based on credentials, size of business, or clinical tradition—as long as the applicant demonstrates alignment with the principles of Systems Medicine and meets safety, transparency, and ethical standards.

3. Optional: Peer Nomination or Community Endorsement

To strengthen the credibility of an applicant, we encourage nominations or endorsements from:

  • Trusted Systems Medicine peers
  • Local practitioners
  • Long-time clients or patients

This is not required, but is used as an additional layer of trust-building, especially in communities we’re just getting to know.

4. Feedback and Reapplication Process (If Not Approved)

If an applicant does not meet our criteria at first review, they will receive:

  • A written explanation of why the application was not approved
  • A clear outline of the specific issues or gaps (e.g., lack of sourcing transparency, unclear clinical focus, unsupported claims)
  • An invitation to update or improve their practices and reapply after 90 days

We view this as an opportunity for growth and collaboration, not rejection. Our team may also offer referrals to helpful resources or recommend pathways to meet the necessary standards

5. Ongoing Quality Assurance: Periodic Review and Community Feedback

Even after acceptance, entries in the Hyman Health Directory are subject to periodic review, which includes:

  • Updates to business practices, ingredients, pricing, etc.
  • Community reports of misleading claims, poor service, or ethical concerns
  • Annual re-attestation to ensure ongoing alignment with our evolving criteria

If concerns arise, we initiate a fair and transparent process to review and, if necessary, place a listing on hold or temporarily delist it, always communicating clearly with the provider and offering a pathway for return.

6. Appeals and Dialogue

We’re human. We might make mistakes. We welcome respectful feedback, appeals, and constructive dialogue from anyone who feels a decision was made in error or without full understanding.
